Informational Only, Not Professional Advice
PlainCompare is for general informational purposes only. Nothing on this site is financial, relocation, legal, tax, or safety advice. Deciding where to live or move is a personal decision that depends on circumstances our data cannot see. For guidance on your specific situation, consult professionals familiar with the area you are considering.
What the Scores Can and Cannot Tell You
Our Life Score and dimension scores summarize federal data at the metro or state level. A metropolitan area can span hundreds of neighborhoods with very different cost, crime, school, and environmental conditions, so a single score is a regional baseline, not a reading of any specific neighborhood, street, or school. Crime figures in particular are reported at the state or county tier and will overstate risk in safe areas and understate it in higher-crime pockets within the same metro. Treat every score as a starting point for research, not a verdict on a place.
The letter grades are relative: they rank a place against all other US metros (or states) on a national curve, not against an absolute standard. A higher grade means a better national ranking on our weighted composite, given our fixed dimension weights, a different set of priorities would produce a different ranking.
Accuracy and Timeliness
We compile figures directly from official federal sources and do not invent or interpolate values, but source datasets contain their own lags, revisions, and reporting gaps. Some figures reflect a reference period one or two years old. We make no warranty that any figure is current, complete, or error-free. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us via our editorial & corrections policy.
